Q6. How do new technologies enable effective and creative film making?

Q6. How do new technologies enable effective and creative film making?

During the production of our Thriller, we encountered many dilemmas and had a few frustrating moments; but when in contrast with how film making used to be, our first world problems were minimal.
Pre-Production
When completing coursework, as well as the product itself – it all gets posted to a website/blog called ‘Blogger’ which allows every student to have their own unique blog to which everyone can see what we’ve done. The website is accessible everywhere, whether on your phone, or a computer. Also allowing room for editing and error. The embedding feature is useful for putting pictures, YouTube videos and other external programmes into our work. This customisation is essential to putting our own mark on each piece of work we do. YouTube is extremely useful for the comparisons of mainstream Thrillers, and other peoples work. When deciding on aspects such as fonts, our group used an application called drop box, a site where we can place and take away many links. This helped us distribute all our work to eachother.

Production
There was new media technologies that were used when we were creating our thriller production, the main thing being the camera which allowed us to try a wide variety of angles and shots, as well as a HD resolution which gave us a sense of professionalism. The portability of the camera itself gave us so much flexibility for how and what we wanted to do with our story. With no weight to the camera, and easily small enough to pack up and put in a backpack. When we were filming itself, the small flip out screen on the camera gave us the option to re watch shots and if we see any errors, re-do a certain scene. Which was essential for this being every member’s first production, so many errors were going to be many mistakes. Speech was more important, with no external microphone the playback on camera is essential.
The SD card within the camera allowed us to film with 32GB of film available, with this huge amount of room, once again there was so much room for error and we had the opportunity to be experimental with our production. The best part about all of these features is that it is accessible to such a huge variety of people.
Post-Production
We used premier pro to edit our final edit. With a range of features we could use to add effects to both the sound, and the visuals. Putting the sd card straight into the computer allowed us to upload the clips straight onto adobe premiere pro. During the editing we learnt new things which we may have never learned before for example adding fonts to the film while it is playing or something simple such as a wipe onto the next scene, even a dip to black could increase the effectiveness of our opening.
Adding sound to our thriller was also very important when editing our thriller, putting a thriller type soundtrack over the original soundtrack can really increase how tense your thriller can come across, premiere allowed us to do this with ease.

  1. Label as G321 Evaluation.

You outline some relevant points here, George. Consider further: How do these technologies empower creativity and also enhance communication/ collaboration? Adding ideas on these questions within your blogpost would enhance this evaluation question.
